APP
Gist empowers patients worldwide to access, understand, and use healthcare information anytime, helping them make informed decisions and follow treatment plans with confidence.
The What & The How
Pain Point
Patients often receive medical information that isn’t adapted to their language, literacy level, or emotional state. This creates confusion, anxiety, and miscommunication, leaving many patients unprepared for procedures and increasing the workload for healthcare teams.
Solution
We set out to rethink how medical information is shared, creating an ecosystem of digital tools that make patient education clear, personal, and engaging. By combining accessible design, personalization, storytelling, and interactivity, the experience adapts to each patient’s language, literacy level, and emotional needs. It empowers patients to understand their care journey with confidence and ease, whether through the platform or the mobile app.
Strategies and Solution
01. The Platform
Inspired by Lego-like flexibility, the platform was built as a modular system that adapts to every patient. It combines medical content, personal attributes, and engagement tools to automatically create personalized, easy-to-understand videos.
Each experience is tailored by language, age, gender, and medical details, making information clear, empathetic, and culturally relevant. The modular structure ensures scalability, consistency, and efficient content creation across procedures. What began with one medical procedure has now grown into a platform supporting eleven specialized services.

Design Processes
01
Creating a New Patient Case
Key decisions
1
Guided Progress
Use a clear 6–8 step timeline to keep users focused and provide instant feedback
2
Focused Interaction
Limit unnecessary CTAs to reduce cognitive load and keep attention on the main task.
3
Efficient Workflow
Streamline actions to save time while maintaining accuracy and consistency
EX. Endoscopy Procedure

Clinic staff begin by setting up a new patient case, entering essential details to ensure relevance and accessibility for each individual. Some of the required information changes based on the selected procedure.
Key actions:
-
Add patient details such as age, gender, and language preference
-
Select the preparation medicine and procedure date when needed
02
Patient Questionnaire
Key decisions
1
Simplified Flow
Broke the long questionnaire into smaller, clearer steps to reduce cognitive load and keep users focused.
2
Progress Feedback
Added a visible progress indicator to create a sense of control and motivate users to complete the process.
3
Adaptive Questions
Introduced conditional follow up questions based on user responses, making the experience feel relevant and personalized.
EX. Labor Induction
Patients are welcomed by a calm, familiar home page that speaks their language. The design and questionnaire adjust to the selected procedure, keeping the experience personal and relevant.
Key actions:
-
Patients or parents complete a short, tailored questionnaire to provide essential medical and personal details.
-
download, read, and print a personalized informed consent form
03
The dashboard
Key decisions
1
Clarity & Accessibility
Display only essential metrics to keep users focused and reduce cognitive load.
2
Actionable Insights
Organize key data and trends in a clean, easy-to-scan layout.
3
Focused Content
Enable medical teams to make informed, data-driven decisions efficiently.

02. The Gist Notebook app
Inspired by Dr. Ofer Havakuk’s personal notebook, The Gist Notebook was created to bridge the communication gap between physicians and patients, transforming complex cardiac diagnoses into clear, visual, and personalized explanations.
At its core is an animated heart simulator that physicians can quickly adapt to each patient’s specific pathology, symptoms, and proposed tests. The real-time simulation turns abstract information into tangible understanding, helping doctors communicate with clarity, empathy, and precision.

Design Processes

Key decisions
1
Simplicity First
esigned around clear, intuitive actions that feel natural and accessible to users of all ages.
2
User Anticipation
Considered potential user needs in advance, ensuring relevant options and actions are always available when needed.
3
No Redundancy
Avoided repetitive steps to keep interactions efficient and focused.

Impact and Conclusion
The Impact
55%
reduction in preoperative meetings
50%
reduction in preoperative meetings
60%
Improvement in colonoscopy bowel preparation adherence
80%
decrease in Workload for Medical Staff
The Conclusion
Simplicity isn’t a preference it’s a necessity
Research and testing show that focused, personalized design helps users act with confidence. By simplifying without losing meaning, patients truly understand what to expect, turning anxiety into clarity and information into trust.
